All Sycamore Springs residents have the opportunity to vote in the last election and like many local elections the turnout is not really impacted by the few who claim they did not receive notification but a lack of interest in taking the time to attend the meeting and place their vote. If you check the statistics on voter turnout in US elections you will find that on average only 21% of registered voters participate in local elections, in the low 40 percent range for State elections and low 60 percent range for a National Election. All of the board members will confirm handing out the notice of the SSHOA meeting to the SS residents at least 30 days in advance of the vote. We could have mailed the notices to all of the residents but the cost of mailing these notices to all of the residents costs about $60 for the stamps with a small cost for the envelopes. I apologize to those who claim they did receive a notice of the SSHOA meeting, but I believe we did an excellent job in communicating this information to the homeowner 30 day in advance via the internet and personal drop off of the letters. In response to your comments, the flyers were dropped off at EVERY homeowners location a week before the garage sale. I agree the neighborhood garage sale notice on the website 6 weeks in advance is not a sufficient way to distribute this information since very few homeowners do not go to the SS website. My apologies, but I do agree the SS notification flyers should have been distributed about 6 weeks in advance as well. As far as violations in the SS development, we have been using reminder cards as well as written notification by mail to communicate violations. Based on the current bylaws there are no financial penalties for homeowner violations other than the delinquent payment charges. A notice of violation has been the only action we are allowed to serve at this time. As a board member for only one year, I have had no responsibility for violations beyond that timeframe.
